Awarded the best remodel over $200,000 in the U.S. by the North American Home Builders Association (NAHBA), we couldn’t be happier for the homeowners and all the ways in which our visions aligned to create this stunning remodel.

Translating the design vision into reality took quiet an effort but no obstacle is too big for us. The AMK team had to contend with outdated Homeowners Association rules in order to receive approval of the flat roof design and be able to build up a good buffer to achieve a “Zen” structure whose front yard neighbors a 5-way street intersection.  The transformation began with the remodeling of the existing garage and the addition of a secondary, 2-car garage, with a courtyard that connected both structures. Providing a private entry experience that immediately opened to spectacular views through the house, towards the Newport back-bay, the courtyard became a central feature in this award-winning sanctuary.

We were retained by an existing client for whom we had already designed a kitchen at their former residence. For this venture, the homeowners wanted us to design a forever home that blended the charm and hominess of traditional architecture with electric architectural elements to keep things interesting. The transitional style coupled with the entertainer’s plan achieved perfect fit for this couple who thrive on golf course living.

We love working on homes that are loaded with memories, in this case, transforming a lot with an abundance of childhood memories for an adventurous family.
As with most beach lots, this one was elongated, relatively narrow, and had privacy issues with exposure to adjacent neighbors’ decks and windows. Given the alley-loaded setting, we were able to maximize the full width, going up to three stories with a contemporary design that played with interior volumes and an abundance of light which magically eliminated the “narrowness” of the space. The resulting house feels spacious, airy and sunlit, with an abundance of indoor/outdoor living spaces, and some room for growth that fits this family like a glove. Particularly noteworthy is the breathtaking master suite, with a private deck, located on the third level.

The goal of this project was to double the square footage of a small existing home and offset the mortgage with an ADU conversion of the existing garage. To achieve the objective, we added a new, two-car garage, and as well as more square footage onto the house in the front yard space. The remodel of the existing residence entailed opening up a key interior corner of the house to merge with a newly created outdoor seating area, for a seamless indoor-outdoor transition, thus making the house larger and living spaces continuous.

A featured project and award winner with Houzz.com, this “tear down” was morphed into a luxury home adjacent to a golf course in Southern California. We kept the lines simple, lifting the ceilings to unfold to golf-course views, and infused this 1950’s post-war tract home with Mid-Century mod inspired lines for sleekness. And while the golf-course views were spectacular in themselves, we also introduced an internal courtyard that conveyed a yin-yang atmosphere and ultimately became the home’s core. It introduced functionality, light quality, entry experience, and alleviated the home’s overall privacy. The family ultimately gained the choice of two exterior spaces; one being more “open” to visitors off the golf-course, and the other more private, which provided an elevated indoor-outdoor living spaces that makes this house a true stunner.
